PRICKLY PEAR PUZZLE
Prickly Pear Puzzle is an interactive sculpture inspired by the iconic desert cactus, inviting participants of all ages to disassemble, reconfigure, and rebuild the artwork into an original composition. Each interaction transforms the piece, making creativity and collaboration part of the experience.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Inspired by the distinctive form of the Southwestern prickly pear cactus, Prickly Pear Puzzle transforms sculpture into a hands-on, collaborative experience.
Designed as a modular installation, the artwork encourages participants to remove, rearrange, and rebuild its individual components, creating a new composition with every interaction. There is no single correct solution. Instead, visitors become co-creators, exploring shape, balance, and spatial relationships through play.
The sculpture invites engagement across generations, fostering curiosity, problem-solving, and connection among participants who often collaborate spontaneously as they build. Its bold colors and approachable design create an inviting environment that encourages exploration while reflecting the landscapes and plant life of the desert Southwest.
Originally developed as a portable activation, Prickly Pear Puzzle has been presented at Meow Wolf’s Adultiverse event inside Omega Mart in Las Vegas and at the City of Las Vegas Earth Day Festival. Adaptable to indoor and outdoor settings, the installation offers organizations, festivals, and public events an interactive experience that encourages creativity, conversation, and repeat engagement.
