Television's first-ever bodypainting competition show "Skin Wars" has become one of cable's most-watched original series, and thanks to Las Vegas art star Robin Slonina, it starts its Season 3 on GSN on Wednesday. To celebrate, Robin is throwing a free bodypainting party with semi-nude models decorated in a "garden of paradise" theme.

As it enters its third season, the body-painting competition “Skin Wars” has raised the profile of the art form around the world, says Las Vegas artist Robin Slonina, who pulls double duty as a producer and judge on the series.

Robin Slonina has been a fixture on the Vegas Arts scene for a decade since moving to Las Vegas in 2005. At that time, she was a wandering artist, living in her VW camper van and traveling around the country making interactive outdoor sculptures. She eventually settled in Las Vegas after meeting her husband, who is a Cirque performer.

With the success of her Skin City body painting studio, owner Robin Slonina rarely has time to dedicate to her own art. That changes with the opening of her first personal Las Vegas studio on January 9 in the Arts Factory.

iH spoke with Slonina and Skin City Studio assistant Judy Desiderio to discuss their art and participation in the event.

Most reality TV isn’t real—that’s no surprise. So when Robin Slonina, artist and owner of Vegas-based Skin City Body Painting, was approached to produce a show around the art form, it had to pass a litmus test.
